Very sad indeed -- I always enjoyed watching Nicole compete.
Former figure skating champ Nicole Bobek arrested in drug ring bust BY JOANNA SLOAME (Daily News Writer) Updated Tuesday, July 7th 2009, 3:44 PM Another figure skater is facing legal trouble. Former U.S. figure skating champion Nicole Bobek has been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, New Jersey. Bobek, who won the women's U.S. figure skating title in 1995, was arrested last week in Florida and brought to New Jersey to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court via videolink Monday from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny, N.Y. The 31-year-old, who has homes in New York and Jupiter, Fla., is accused of being involved in a northern New Jersey drug ring. Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio told the Jersey Journal that she played a significant role in this operation. She was actively involved in the upper echelon of this ring. DeFazio added that the crimes of which Bobek is accused took place in New York and that twenty other individuals were arrested in connection to the drug ring. Bobek's attorney, Sam DeLuca, entered a not guilty plea for the former skater, and she was held on $200,000 bail. Bobek faces up to 10 years in jail if she is convicted. She was a lovely skater, but seemed to have some sort of issue (?) with being consistent. We watched her faithfully-cheering her success, but when she had an
'off night' it usually spiralled from one fall into botching the performance, which was really upsetting to us fans as well.
While this is not exactly Tonya or Oxsana(sp?), this is another example of talent going haywire. Opinions guys? |

When Nicole had a good day, she was wonderful -- however on an off day, she would make a mistake and then the whole performance would fall apart. ????
I often wondered if she was the victim of a lack of training or concentration or a case of nerves. ???? BTW Nicole has posted bail -- after it was reduced from $200,000 to $100,000. |

Surfed around looking for an update on Nicole but didn't find any news -- however her arrest photo has been posted -- I could've bumped into her on the
street and would not have recognized her.
